Barn Wedding Project

I was asked to create a wedding piece for a couple who was getting married at a barn scene. I had made a piece before for a similar wedding and so the gift givers wanted something similar. Here is the original picture I had created.

The only difference for this piece would be that their color was blue and they had incorporated sunflowers instead of a rose bouquet. I also wanted to use a more modern font which I edged with 1/8″ paper to match.

I have made tiny roses using the folded rose technique, but had never tried making tiny sunflowers before. I tried 3 times before I was finally satisfied with the end result.

I used a 5mm yellow strip to make the petals by folding it in half twice, then cutting the petals in the shape I wanted like you would cut fringe for a fringed flower. I then used a 1/8″ strip of brown paper to make the center of the flower. After rolling up the brown paper, I then attached the yellow strip on the end of it and continued rolling. I glued the end in place and gently rolled my finger across the yellow petals until the we’re out enough to suit me. After rolling the flowers, I attached a spiraled length of green for the stems and cut tiny green petals. I then arranged them into the bouquet and wrapped a thin strip of burlap ribbon around the stems to create the final bouquet.

For the bride and groom, I cut out a black silhouette and a white cut out of the dress and veil. I then cut white 1/8″ strips in half to use on them for fill in.

I loved how it turned out and I wish nothing but the best for the newly married couple.

  1. Love the sunflowers!!! I will have to try that technique! This made me want to make sunflowers for my next quilling project! I still intend to post pics of my bowl and some of my other work – hopefully soon. 🙂
