South Carolina State Art

I grew up in NC and visited South Carolina many times. A couple of my favorite places to go was the Myrtle Beach Pavilion and Barefoot Landing. They had some cool shops with fun restaurants and of course they are close to the beach.

Before I moved to Florida, I worked as a general music teacher and I took my Show Choir to MB to perform in the Alabama theater. We had so much fun and I loved exposing the kids to country music! A lot of them listened to rap or pop, so it was fun watching their reaction on the backstage tour.

Just recently, I had a customer to ask me to make a custom state art piece for SC and they revealed that they loved the myrtle Beach Ferris wheel. So I was asked to include it along with palm trees, a turtle, some shells, and the state flag. I knew I would love making this one!

My first thing to do was paint the background, so I included the pier, the Ferris wheel, the flag, palm tree, and of course the ocean. Then after it was dry, I started to quill on top. This process brought back a lot of memories from my childhood and it was fun because usually I don’t know much about a state when I work on these state pieces.

I hope you love this piece as much as I loved making it… Jennifer
